Chapter 4: The Silent Proposal

Discussions began between families. Elders sat with serious expressions, spilling tea and opinions. Abhinav’s parents wanted it. Gunnu’s parents hesitated. She was only twenty-five. There was the five-year gap. And worse—the mismatch.

Gunnu herself rebelled. “Marriage? Already? Mummy, I… I don’t even know the man properly!”

Her mother scolded, her father sighed, and relatives whispered encouragements. Society had a way of cornering one into decisions far faster than the heart was ready for.

Abhinav sat silently in the meeting, his strong profile calm as stone. When asked directly, his parents turned his way and said, “Beta, what do you decide?”

He looked at Gunnu. Her arms were crossed, lips tight, eyes rebellious. But behind her fire, he saw confusion, fear, and innocence unprepared for war. He nodded once. Just once. “Yes.”

That single word hit her like a wave.

She wanted to scream at his calmness. How can he decide so quickly? Doesn’t he even care what I feel? Yet, in that same calm, there was an unspoken promise—a certainty she lacked but secretly craved. Something steadier than her restless sunshine.
