Chapter 19: Family Betrayal

Happiness rarely lasted without interruption. A cousin of Gunnu’s—spiteful, envious—began whispering poison to relatives again. “They seem so happy, but inside it’s all pretense. Haven’t you heard? They’re fighting. Abhinav only pretends for image…”

The words reached Gunnu’s ears, shaking her confidence. But this time, instead of withdrawing, she confronted Abhinav openly. “Tell me the truth. Do we… do we look fake to them?”

His eyes blazed. “We don’t owe anyone proof.”

At the next family dinner, the cousin tried to mock Gunnu again—until Abhinav rose, voice cutting like steel. “Say one more word, and you answer to me directly. My wife and I don’t perform for your entertainment.”

For Gunnu, it was the first time she truly felt them standing not as two separate people—but as one. United, unshaken.
