Chapter 20: First True Homecoming

Weeks later, Abhinav surprised Gunnu with a small gesture. He came home with a carved wooden swing, her childhood dream. “You said you loved sitting outside, so… I thought we’d start our own corner.”

They set it on the balcony together, laughing when screws fell, teasing when she sat and nearly fell off. By nightfall, the swing was ready. Gunnu sat curled in it, Abhinav standing behind, gently pushing. For the first time, the house no longer felt like walls and routines.

It felt like home.

Her gummy smile returned as she whispered, “Maybe… we’re finally getting it right.”

Abhinav leaned down, his lips brushing the crown of her head. “We already are. You and me, against the world.”

And under the stars, they both knew—the real battles were ahead, but together, they had already begun to win.
