Chapter 21: Two Years In

Two years of marriage. Time passed in seasons of laughter, stubborn clashes, tender discoveries. Gunnu had grown into the role of wife, but the one thing society never let her forget loomed over her like a curse—children.

The whispers grew louder. Women from the extended family made passive comments. “Still no news? Is she even trying?” Gunnu laughed in front of them, but each word cut deeper. She was 27 now, but still burdened with the label of immature, now worsened by childless.

At night she confessed softly, “Everyone’s looking at me like I’m failing you.”

Abhinav turned from his desk, eyes sharp. “Failing me? Gunnu—you are my life. No one,” his tone cracked like thunder, “no one measures your worth by a child but you.”

Still, her heart trembled. Society had made her sunshine flicker. For the first time, doubts about herself began to eclipse her natural laughter.
