“Oh, I knew it would happen, beta! You’re special!” one aunt gushed.
Another, who had once mocked her as childish, now patted her hand. “We always said you’d make a wonderful mother.”
Gunnu couldn’t help smiling sweetly, though her words bit sharp. “Really? I don’t remember you saying that when you mocked me last year.” Her gummy grin made Abhinav suppress an almost-smile at her boldness.
Later, Abhinav murmured to her, “They’ll always change with the wind. Ignore them.”
Gunnu twined her fingers with his quietly. “I don’t need them anymore. I have you. And soon… our family.”
